My Birdroom

I have installed my 8 aviaries and 16 breedingcages on the first floor of my garagebuilding. The breedingcages are mainly meant for the housing of my couples Agapornis Pullarius Pullarius. The first months of their independence I also keep the young Pullarias in this cages.  After their second moult I give them one of the aviaries in wich they can proceed developping themselves. I use the remaining aviaries for my mountain parrakeets and splendids. I also have an aviary outside wich I use for the young splendids.

A good airventilation of the birdroom is in my opinion essential for optimal breedingresults and health for the birds. A good functioning airventilationsystem doesn't cause draft. Therefore I use a system wich is common in the intensive stock-breeding. A boxventilator  connected with a troughput through the roof gets the fresh air from outside. The ventilator blows up an attached airbag with minuscule little hole in it . My experiences with this system are PERFECT. Fresh air, no draft and no feeling of coldness..I think chances on "too-long-feathered" birds are because of the use of this system more less. You run this chance with inside-breeding. Especially with neophemas.

Illumination also is in my conviction an important factor for succesfull breeding. My birdroom is about 45 square metres big. It is illuminated with 5 highfrequent tubes (birdlamps of Arcadia) and 5 bulbs (daylightbulbs of Philips). I use the special birdlamps  because I believe in the sun's UV-power wich is simulated by these special Arcadia-tubes. A lightingdevice controls the lighting. It even simulates the semi darkness by dimming the bulbs. That's why I installed the bulbs.
