Pullaria; General description

{nomultithumb}pulalgemeen_picture3The Agapornis Pullarius is about  15 cm tall and one of the smallest lovebirds. The Cana is the smallest. In nature the  Agapornis Pullarius is common in the regions around the equator in West and Central Africa. The adult males have a orange-red coloured  forehead, roof, cheeks and jabot. The general bodycolor is green. image004The chest, belly , flanks and beneath are more or less yellowish green. The coat is green. The wingcover is green with mostly  a more or less hammered impression. The bends of the wings and the under wing coverts are black. The rump is blue. The green tail shows a red and black sub-terminal band, the tip is green again. The bill is red, the feet are grey and the claws are black. There is a small ring of minute bluish-white feathers around the eye.The eyes are darkish brown. Hens have a much paler orange on the head. They also lack the black under wing coverts, which are green.

It is a pity that there are only a very few succesfull pullaria-breeders. That's why these birds are very rare in the collection of breeders. For more details, backgrounds and a more extensive description (in dutch) I  refer you to the added PDF-file.
