Parrots
Beside the pullarias and splendids I also have a couple of tamed Green-winged Macaws. The female (Lara) is 6 years old and the male (Floris) is 5 years old. These birds became real members of the family spending many hours in the living room. Despite of they are tamed I do hope that I can breed with this sweet and beautifull birds in future.
The Green-winged Macaws (Ara Chloroptera) are about 90 centimeters tall. Their distribution in the wild is eastern Panama and northwest Colombia; east of Andes from eastern Colombia and Venezuela south across Ecuador, Peru, Guyana, Surinam and French Guiana to Brazilian provinces of Parana and Mato Grosso, northern and eastern Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentinian province of Formosa. They are common in areas with primary forest, however mostly fewer than Blue and Yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna) or Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao). They have already disappeared from extensive parts of distribution area mainly due to habitat destruction, trapping for trade and hunting.
The birds clutch 1-3 eggs wich oftenly will not be fertlised all. The incubationperiod is 25-27 days. When the birds are left undisturbed during breeding they are usally very quiet.
