Neophemas

The race Neophema points to a collective term of little flattailled parrakeets from Australia. They are all indentifyable to their relatively long tail. With the exception of the Bourke's parrakeet they are mainly green. They all have blue on the bend of the wings and a blue belt on the forehead. All representatives are quick flyers, are living like nomads in their habitats and are spending a lot of time on the ground. With the exception of the splendids and the turquoisines there are only small differences between males and females.

For a more extensive description of these birds I refer to the many books and literature wich have been written about these popular birds.

These birds are so popular because they are very grateful birds. They are relatively easy to breed with and there are a lot of color-mutation. Something what contributes to their popularity. The disadvantage of these group of birds is their sensitivity for several deseases.

I'm especially fascinated by the splendid grass parrakeet. Of this beautifull bird I have several blue-mutations. The white-breasted blueviolet is one of the newest mutation which I personally like the most.. I keep these birds in little aviaries. Couple by couple. From some breeders I know they keep them in breedingcages but in my conviction these birds must be able to fly. Therefore in aviaries!
